Malaysia - Singapore 2013: Jurong Bird Park

Jurong Bird Park in the Morning

Our time with the animals didn't end the night we left Night Safari the night before. Because we came in late in our hotel, we were decided to leave a bit late than usual.

How we got there:
1. Take MRT from Kallang Station to Boon Lay
2. Get off at Boon Lay. Find the bus terminal.
3. Take Bus 198 to Jurong Bird Park.

Similar to what we had in Safaris, we decided to take the tram first before we covered the park on foot. There were about 400 species of birds, with about 5000 flying and non-flying friends. :) Since they are everywhere, beware of poops and crossing birds. :)

 We also visited the Bird Nursery which you can see how these birds are hatched along with few days old chicks.

We didn't miss out the shows, Flyers and Birds of Prey. Better check the show times for these.

After leaving Jurong Bird Park, we wanted to talk that famous Singapore walk, and take our pictures to the merlion. It will be our last day in Singapore tomorrow and we better get that shot! :)

Malaysia - Singapore 2013: Singapore Zoo and Night Safari

Singapore Zoo

After a mere 3 hours in the River Safari, we decided to transfer to Singapore Zoo. There are two options to cover this huge zoo - to take the tram and get off selected sections of the zoo or walk. We decided to walk. Haha! Ang sipag namin di ba? But noong napagod na kami, we rode the tram.

Sad that we only have Mali in the Philippines,
so we got to see the Elephants of Asia show in Singapore Zoo. 

Orangutans. They are such emo animals. (yes, there's one under the white sack).

The zoo is so huge, we decided to pace our visit. Though we decided on some sections that we stayed a bit long. :)


Night Safari

Night safari, it being called as such, zoo begins at 6:30 in the evening, 30 minutes after Singapore Zoo closes. Jokingly, some of the visitors who do not visit the Night Safari would tell you that the animals in Singapore Zoo and Night Safari are basically the same. The zookeepers just transfer them.

Night safari is a park dedicated to nocturnal animals in Asia. Since flash photography (guilty in one shot! I wasn't able to check my settings) is strictly prohibited due to the nature of the animals, none of the visitors took a shot, thus, you barely see pictures about the Night Safari.

We are afraid that these animals may attack us, we decided to just ride the tram (twice) around the safari. W are very lucky to hear one pack of wolves to howl (at our first ride, so we decided to take another if we can hear it the second time around) and be informed that our very own carabaos known as the water buffalos are nocturnal animals. We wanted to correct them, but naah! We paid roughly 20 dollars to see a carabao! :))

After an animal filled day (and night) we capped off our safari day at around 10 in the evening. It was the first time we went home that late!

Malaysia - Singapore 2013: Zoo Day!

Singapore Zoo, River Safari and Night Safari

After a long, tiring day in USS, we are prepared for another day in our Singapore leg. :) We are very excited on this one since we will be kids (again) for a zoo tour. We feel like little kids (without their parents of course) having their field trips. Brings back very, very old memories.

Anyways, on route to the Zoos we took the following:

1. A 10 minute walk to Mountbatten MRT Station.
2. Took Mountbatten to Bishan and change trains in Bishan to Ang Mo Kio.
3. Inside the mall, make your way to the bus terminal and take Bus 138A to Singapore Zoo, Night Safari and River Safari.

Getting Tickets

This time, we didn't get tickets online and decided to just buy them at the Zoo Ticket Counter. We bought the 4-park hopper tickets which covers Singapore Zoo, River Safari, Night Safari and Jurong Bird Park. You don't need to visit them in one day. You may visit them in one week duration.

How to Park Hop

We asked the ticket attendant which zoo should we take first in order to make the most of our time. She recommended that we take the River Safari first before Singapore Zoo since it will only take us 2-3 hours to cover it.

River Safari
This park is dedicated to the river animals, mostly made up of aquariums and terrariums.

This park's main attraction is the Singapore's Panda Village where you can see two breeds of Panda's - the Red Panda and the Giant Panda (aka Kung Fu Panda).

You should not miss out the cute Panda Buns being sold in the Panda restaurant inside the River Safari. Not only it looks like little panda heads, they actually tastes delicious! I love the chocolate buns.

The boat ride is closed during our visit and the only way to cover every meter of the River Safari is to walk. :)
